Bounce Back!

"Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

― Christian D. Larson

I recently stumbled on an amazing book that I'm yet to pounce on. Saving it for the next book I'll read after the present one. It's called "Your Forces and How to Use Them" by Christian D. Larson and just skimming though it, I can tell it's going to be an amazing read. The first chapter opens your mind up to so many amazing thoughts and in the first chapter, I found these profound statements I quoted above.

This past week has been full of enormous lessons...so much so that it's been one of the most profound moments of my not-so-long life so far and I just thought to share... especially on going through the not-so-pleasant moments that one often needs to bounce back from.

I guess it's safe to say that we're all going through this crazy thing (we're still trying to have all figured out) called life which happens to be full of it all. Sometimes it's like we've had enough and we just want to quit. Sometimes we go through some not-so-great- life experiences that are just too deep and profound that leave us questioning alot of things and if you"re a deep thinker like me, you'd probably dwell on it for a while and beat yourself up (or down). Other times it could just be the feeling of being in a never ending pit of sadness, failures, living in the past mistakes, missed opportunities and constant disappointment.

But like we saw from the excerpt above, you just have to promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind and that you'll forget the mistakes of the past as well as the let downs and just forge ahead!. Every week, I share some major lessons of the week that I learnt on my social media and this week alone I learnt so much about bouncing back from unexpected not-so-great-circumstances. Some of them are:

1. You can’t control how people treat you or what they say about you. All you can do is control how you react to it.

2. You are your biggest asset. Nobody values your biggest asset more than you.

3. Happiness is a choice. Your choice.

4. Running away from problems never solved them.

5. You are stronger than you think, but sometimes, some circumstances occur that make you as strong as you need to be.

So what I learned is when these tough times come, it's might be really hard at that point in time to be positive or focused especially when its a mental or emotional "tough time". However, some of the things that helped me bounce back which I thought to share are:

1. Decide you want to bounce back
Decide this very moment as you read this that you want to be happy, no matter the circumstance. Decide this moment that you want to overcome your constant mood swings, the pent up anger, the bitterness, the rage, the feelings of being insecure and all the other negative feelings you’ve desperately wanted to purge but have not. Decide this very moment that although you’ve had a number of failures, you want to keep trying. Decide this very moment that no matter how tough the road ahead gets, you will not quit. Decide that you want to bounce back, that you want to give it your all, That you won’t be held back or be held down. Just Decide.

2. Remember to respond and not react
I've learned that when certain things come your way, unexpected or not, you just have to respond and not react to everything. By giving a response, you're training yourself to be calmer and more logical in your approach to situations rather than reacting to everything said to you or about you. As I mentioned earlier, you cannot really control the way others treat you or speak to you, but you can control how you respond/react to them....so basically, decide that you would not allow people get to you.

4. Be positive
This might be really tough to do especially when you're at your lowest point and things just seem to be negative all over, but just make that conscious effort of reminding yourself that it could be worse...but its not. You're alive and with each day comes an opportunity to start afresh and to renew your mindset. So think positively! And most importantly, don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes we beat ourselves down alot on minor mistakes or what someone may have said or done and this takes away any positive mindset we may be trying to build.

5. Keep going!
No adumbration on that... just keep going!

Have a lovely day!
